Fertility - How much sex is enough?

Monogamists swear to live with, or the only one - polygamists, however, are confident that the more sexual partners, the better. Information on the fertility issue is the sperm quality. Eternal loyalty seems to be an evolutionary aberration, even if in most societies have long since established two relationships and infidelities are a separation principle - reproductive technology seems to be no justification for this development.

Then, a study by researchers at the University of Western Australia out, which was published in the journal BMC Evolutionary Biology. Renee Firman has developed the sperm quality of mice. This he compared two groups: one group lived for twelve generations in polygamy, and the other as long monogamous.

Female mice were then once each with a single male of each group. 53 percent of the next litter had two fathers, 33 percent of a father-polygamy group and only 14 percent, a father of monogamy group. Polygamy males were more successful, whether they fertilized the female as the first or second.
