Appointment for an HPV test

HPV is Human Papilloma Virus abbéviation for: hundreds of viruses of this family have been identified so far as responsible for a genital infection but only a dozen of them are associated with cancer of the cervix. That is why their testing is so interesting. So far, this test was mainly reserved for women whose smears contained anomalies.

But more and more gynecologists practicing the art of smear-called "thin layer" (a technique where cells are not spread but preserved in a liquid suspension) that allows searching by molecular biology of HPV. In making an appointment with your gynecologist for a Pap smear, ask him what he practices the art.

Note: before age 30, this test is irrelevant. Needless to stress to your gynecologist if he thinks you do not need to do.
