The number of cases of diabetes mellitus (type 1) varies widely by country. In France, an estimated 10 000 children under 15 years (that is to say about one child in 1000) have diabetes. But there was a sharp increase in diabetes cases in children: 75% increase in less than 4 years and 30% for 4-14 years.
To explain the increased number of cases of diabetes mellitus several tracks are proposed. The first suggests the factors feeding the number of cases of diabetes appears to be inversely proportional to the rate of breastfeeding. The second track highlights the sanitization of the environment which is likely to alter the field of general immune infants.
As for type 2 diabetes, it affects more and more teenagers because of the increasing number of obese children.
